How Effective is Electrochemical Water Treatment Method in Treating Industrial Effluents?

Electrochemical water treatment method provides the fundamentals and applications of electrochemical water treatment methods to treat industrial effluents. Industrial electrochemistry has undergone development towards cleaner processes and more environmentally friendly products, which is one of the strategies for environmental protection.

Wastewater treated by electric hot water system gives palatable, clear, colourless and odourless water. The process avoids uses of chemicals, and so there is no problem of neutralizing excess chemicals and no possibility of secondary pollution caused by chemical substances added at a high concentration as when chemical coagulation of wastewater is used.

Other attractive advantages are related to versatility, high energy efficiency, amenability to automation, and cost-effectiveness.

From the viewpoint of high efficiency and low resource consumption, electrochemical technologies can be used either as a pre-treatment step to increase the biodegradability of a pollutant or as an advanced treatment method further to reduced COD or colour in the water to achieve relevant effluent standards. The process can be conveniently used in rural areas where electricity is not available since a solar panel attached to the unit might be sufficient to carry out the process.

Wastewater treatment processes are changing as researchers develop new techniques. Such research leads to improvements in purification, the speed of water treatment and uses for the waste products removed. Development of new processes also saves more energy, time and resources, which are then available for other needs.

As a consequence of industrial development activities, technological progress and business profits have sometimes prevailed over environmental concerns, resulting in an increasing number of detrimental pollutants that have found their way into the environment. Thus, the removal of environmental pollutants has become a major issue and a crucial factor for the sustainable development of modern industrial processes, which must comply with regulations to ensure clean environments.
